Edward Augustus Inglefield, 1820-94. Chart shewing the North West Passage discovered by Capt. R. Le M. McClure H. M. Ship Investigator: also the Coast explored in Search of Sir J. Franklin. Drawn by W. H. Fawekner, lithographed by Walker, surveyed by Sir Edward Augustus Inglefield. [London]: Hydrographic Office, 1853.
Inglefield was the Captain of the supply ship Phoenix, sent out in 1853
to take supplies to the Belcher expedition. He returned to England the
same year with the news that the Investigator’s crew was safe, and
the Northwest Passage discovered. His map, the first to show the Passage,
shows all of the areas explored in the Franklin search.
