George Frederick M’Dougall. The eventful voyage of H.M. discovery ship “Resolute” to the Arctic regions. London, 1857.
McDougall was the master of the Resolute, which was part of Belcher’s
expedition under the command of Henry Kellett. They reached Winter Harbour
on Melville Island in April 1853 looking for traces of Franklin, and found
instead a message left by McClure a year earlier. McClure had walked from
Banks Island across the McClure Strait to Melville Island, and left a
report of his discoveries and location. Kellett dispatched a sledge party
to Mercy Bay, and the McClure expedition was rescued.
