Edward Belcher. The last of the Arctic voyages. London, 1855.
Belcher commanded the final Admiralty search for Franklin with a squadron
of five ships. Two ships went north into Wellington Channel, one stayed
on Beechey Island, and two ships, the Resolute and Intrepid went west
to Melville Island. The Resolute rescued the Investigator’s crew.
Belcher later ordered the abandonment of four of his ships in ice, for
which he was court-martialed, but acquitted.
